Introduction

The protein encoded by MAP2K2 is a member of the dual specificity protein kinase family, which acts as a mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinase kinase. MAP kinases, also known as extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERKs), act as an integration point哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿$哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿(哠ި哬ި哸ި￿￿ dependent on the Ser/Thr phosphorylation by MAP kinase kinase kinases. Mutations in this gene cause cardiofaciocutaneous syndrome (CFC syndrome), a disease characterized by heart defects, mental retardation, and distinctive facial features similar to those found in Noonan syndrome.
